Home Learning - REAL Challenges

The research is quite clear. Homework does not work! The best thing we can do to enable your children is to assist them with reading, basic numeracy and encourage them to become lifelong learners. To that end do not expect homework, worksheets or projects that will simply rob you and your family of quality time.

Do encourage your child to read (read to them, with them and have them read to you), encourage them to memorise the basic facts we send home (we teach the numeracy at school to compliment this).  These two things work! They make a difference. All the rest is optional!

So.......

Home Learning will consist of reading and basic facts for all and basic sight words (high frequency words) for juniors.

In addition students from Year 4, 5 and 6 are encouraged to take up the Waitākiri REAL Challenges.  These challenges include learning opportunities in the arts, physical activities, numeracy and literacy, service to others and the community, and service in school.
